The amendments are intended to reduce the workload of judges and to facilitate their decision making, however, the selected methods of doing so are being heavily criticized. In particular, judges will be allowed not to give reasoning for their judgments on a significant number of cases, the appeal will become individual, rather than collegial, and challenges related to economic crimes will be made by judges themselves.

If the proposed amendments are approved, this will inevitably entail negative consequences for the whole judicial system, Timur Khutov writes.
